Tuition and Fees

Tuition and Fees

Tuition and fees are due from GT-Shenzhen students at the beginning of each semester. A number of scholarships are available.

Tuition and fees are quoted in the Chinese currency RMB. You can visit this page to obtain the exchange rate between RMB and the currency of your interest. As of 1/11/2016, the exchange rate between USD and RMB is approximately 1 USD = 6.7 RMB.

The GT-Shenzhen tuition and fees rate is 45,000 RMB per semester for the 2015-2016 academic year. To obtain the GT MS ECE degree in Shenzhen, the total tuition and fees cost is 135,000 RMB.

Tianjin University graduate students who are also GT-Shenzhen students will receive a partial tuition waiver totaling 15,000 RMB for the degree program. These students will be assessed 40,000 RMB per semester tuition and fees by the program.

If a student chooses to spend the last semester overseas at GT-Atlanta or GT-Lorraine, he/she will need to pay the tuition and fees (including a program fee) directly to that campus. The total cost will increase and the exact amount will depend on the tuition and fees in effect at that campus at the time of exchange. Presently, the estimated total costs for the various options are:

  • Studying for 3 semesters in Shenzhen: 135,000 RMB
  • Studying for 2 semesters in Shenzhen and 1 fall or spring semester in Lorraine: 142,000 RMB
  • Studying for 2 semesters in Shenzhen and 1 summer semester in Atlanta: 162,000 RMB
  • Studying for 2 semesters in Shenzhen and 1 fall or spring semester in Atlanta: 193,000 RMB

The above costs assume that the students complete 30 GT credit hours in 3 academic semesters (excluding any internship semester).  If a student needs additional academic semester(s) for any reason, additional tuition and fees will apply.

Tuition and fees payment details will be sent to enrolled students prior to the beginning of each semester.

 Payment Information

For the 2016-2017 academic year and for those taking 4-12 credit hours, the GT-Shenzhen MS ECE program tuition and fees amount to 45,000 RMB total per semester. As of June 10, 2016 the exchange rate is 1 USD = 6.56 RMB. The tuition and fees are payable to GT Bursar as follows.

  • Tuition: $5,880 USD
  • Technology Fee: $107 USD
  • Special Institution Fee: $444 USD
  • Program fee: $428 USD

Note: Students who receive scholarships will have their tuition reduced by the amount of the scholarship.

For those taking 1-3 credit hours, the tuition and fee schedule is as follows.

  • Tuition: $1,764 USD
  • Technology Fee: $107 USD
  • Special Institution Fee: $222 USD
  • Program fee: $214 USD

Note: Students are only permitted to register for 1-3 credit hours if they have completed at least 27 credit hours of coursework.

Non-Chinese students are required to have a GT designated medical, evacuation, and repatriation insurance policy for the semester(s) that they are in China. Note that the cost of insurance is in addition to the above GT-Shenzhen tuition and fees. The GT-Shenzhen program will order the insurance for non-Chinese students before the start of the semester and bill the students’ account for the cost of the premium from the insurance company. Students will pay this insurance fee via their student account as usual.

The tuition and fees must be paid by the payment deadline for each semester indicated on the GT Bursar Calendar. Various payment options are available. The recommended payment option for US students is WebCheck (no fee). If a non-US student has a friend/family who has a US bank account and is willing to pay to the GT Bursar on behalf of the student, WebCheck is also the recommended option; otherwise the recommended payment option for non-US students is wire transfer (the fee varies depending on the bank that you use) or credit card (with 2.75% fee).

Unless you can pay by WebCheck, credit card is preferred since any payment is posted immediately to your account. Wire transfers are labor-intensive to process and can take a week to post to your account.

Please request that the bank executing your wire transfer include your GT Student Identification Number (GTID) FIRST in the “wire special instructions/reference field” as this information is critical for timely application of payment. Space permitting, please include also your first and last name.

Some foreign banks have to go through a correspondent or intermediary bank to wire transfer money to a US bank. The correspondent/intermediary bank deducts a fee (typically $15 to $18 per transaction) from the wire transfer amount. This is part of the fee that the sender (not the receiver) should pay. Please inquire with your bank the fee that the correspondent/intermediary bank will charge and add that to the wire transfer amount. This will ensure that when we receive the wire transfer, the amount will be sufficient to cover your tuition & fees. Note this is in addition to the fee that your bank charges you to send out the wire.

Following the execution of the transfer, please send one email to Gabrielle Lolley and cc: Tirrell Johnson and Chelcea Warren. Please include name of the sender, GTID, amount, and indicate that the money is for GT-Shenzhen tuition & fees. All inquiries regarding the receipt of your wire should be sent to Chelcea Warren.
